If you are wondering whether an internship in Cardiff is for you, read below:

The answer is simple: it is the only place you can get all this experience at the beginning of your career.
But an internship with CCW isn’t only about work.

Mateusz Klose & Andrzej Kaleta

Interns, EFM - CCW

For two months, Mateusz Klose and Andrzej Kaleta were interns in a VET (Vocational Education Training) project in CCW – Career Change Wales – in Cardiff. The internship was organized by Europejskie Forum Młodzieży within the framework of the project „Youth for Europe – Europe for Youth” POWERVET-2016-1-PL01-KA102-025198, co-finaced by the European Union under the European Social Fund, Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development. This post is their own view on their internship.

During our two months in Wales we had a chance to meet new people, learn about new cultures, sightsee, learn English, but mostly, gain valuable experience. CCW offered us a lot of training, which not only helped us gain new skills, but also improve our exisitng knowledge.

It was our pleasure to meet and work with Mike, who is no doubt one of the best bosses we have had and probably will ever have. Working for him is different than working for anybody else. Thanks to him, we learned that there is nothing we can’t do – there are only things we can’t do yet, but if we have to, we will learn how to do them.

He was a demanding boss, who appreciated proffesionalism and hard work. At the same time he understood that we were at the beginning of our working experience, that’s why we have had a lot of conversations. He always tried to help us whenever we had a problem.

Thanks to him we’ve learned to always work to the best of our abilities.

In projects like this one of the most important things is accommodation. In this aspect we also couldn’t  have been more lucky. Lucy made us feel at home right from the beginning. Our conversations with her on variety of topics helped us to improve our dictionary, grammar and accent. We also had a chance to try cuisine from around the world (luckily not so much British!).

As we mentioned an internship at CCW wasnt just about work. It is a perfect place to meet amazing people from many different countries. It was great opportunity to learn about new cultures and new languages. Conversations with people from different, non-English speaking countries helped us not only to improve our English, but also learn to understand not only the British accent, but also French, Turkish or Spanish.

Working in  a multinational environment made us more open and helped us gain new experiences.

Throughout two months we had a lot of time to travel around Wales, which is an amazing part of the UK. Cardiff itself is beautiful and definitley worth a visit. It is also located an hour from the places like Swansea, Bristol and the amazing Brecon Beacons National Park. Sadly we couldn’t find enough time to visit London, which is only over 3 hours ride from Cardiff. Don’t make that mistake!

Overall, our stay in Cardiff was definitley worthwhile. I would reccomend for anyone to take part in this project. We are grateful to CCW and EFM for making our internship possible and for the opportunity to spend two amazing months abroad, in which we gained experience in our field, made new friends and visited the beautiful country of Wales.
